Like Willie Stargell and Barry Bonds before him Pedro Alvarez is providing tremendous pop for the Pittsburgh Pirates from the left side of the plate. In a resurgent year for the Pirates Alvarez who is leading the National League in homeruns is one of the major catalyst's for why Pittsburgh will finish over .500 this season for the first time since 1992, Barry Bonds last season in Pittsburgh. The accolades were rewarded for Alvarez with the first all-star selection of his Major League career which took place in the city where he grew up the Big Apple.
