The Yankees need to lock him up when free agency begins because he is the ace they've lacked for years, and his signing would create an instant buzz in New York City's black community.

The New York Jets were able to make a trade with the Green Bay Packers which landed them future hall of fame quarterback Brett Favre on Wednesday. After forty years of disappointment since their last super bowl appearance, the New York Jets have provided their fans with one of the most exciting moments in franchise history.

Former Montreal Expo and New York Yankee Tim Raines was one of the greatest base stealers in Major League Baseball History. He tells WBAI Sports that the days of the enormous stolen base numbers went out the door with the dawning of the homerun/steroid era. Raines also says it saddens him to see so few African-Americans playing baseball now, his idols growing up were Joe Morgan- Hank Aaron and Willie Mays, and he would love a return to the Bronx as a coach.

“On the Big Hook” is what Yankees principal owner George Steinbrenner has used in the past to describe the job security of Yankees general Brian Cashman. George has moved to the background and left the day to day operations of the team up to sons Hal and Hank. The University of Rutgers woman's basketball team made a stunning run to the 2007 NCAA National Championship game and were on the brink of becoming national champions. They fell short losing to the University of Tennessee 59-46. This season they are off to a better start than last season and are looking to make it back to the national championship stage where they can settle some unfinished business.

The New England Patriots have long been a dynasty. But the addition of Wide Receiver Randy Moss has elevated them to a level unapproachable by any team in NFL history. Simply put it's the "Randy Moss Effect" and it's he and not Patriots quarterback Tom Brady who should have been 2007 NFL MVP.

Yanks Need This Ace

Despite having some of the greatest offensive lineups the game has ever seen on paper over the last few years the New York Yankees have failed to win a world series championship since 2000 when they had Roger Clemens pitching at the top of his form. Clemens was the Yankees last "true ace" and they could easily fill the void at the top of their pitching rotation if they pull the trigger on a much attainable trade for Minnesota Twins two-time "Cy Young award" pitcher Johan Santana. Bronx Bombers will be making a big mistake if they fail to land Santana's services and allow him to go to the arch-rival Boston Red Sox.

Former New York Knicks guard Jamal Crawford is now in his 10th NBA season and has never played in the playoffs. In fact Crawford is the player in the NBA who has played in the most games without stepping foot into the playoffs. That streak will end in one month when he makes the playoffs with the Atlanta Hawks. Crawford returned to his former home Madison Square Garden on March 8th where he played for four and a half seasons. He spoke with WBAI Sports about the subject and we also speak with teammate s Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams about Crawford. We also speak with Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Woodson about Crawford. Crawford is from Seattle, Washington and so is Marvin Williams who is six years Crawford’s Junior. Williams talks about growing up watching Crawford and how Crawford paved the way for other ball players out of Seattle. And Joe Johnson who will be one the top free agents on the market this summer tells us whether he believes players around the NBA find New York City and Madison Square Garden as an attractive place to play.

On Saturday March 6th the New York Knicks lost at home by 20 points to the 7-55 cross river rival New Jersey Nets. In the building was legendary Knicks play by play broadcaster Marv Albert who was behind the Mic for the only two championships in franchise history in 1970 and 1973. Albert is no longer the play by play man with the Knicks and is calling games for the New Jersey Nets. Albert speaks with Samori Benjamin after the Ugly Knicks loss and talks about the current state of the Knick and their prospects of signing Lebron James this summer. Albert also speaks about the Nets move to Newark next season, their eventual move to Brooklyn in 2012-2013 and the influence Jay-z has on the franchise and potential free agents. Report on New Orleans' Super XLIV Victory

Last June the New York Knicks who are in desperate need of a point guard passed up on drafting future superstar point guard Brandon Jennings in the NBA draft. Jennings made it clear before the draft that he wanted to play for the Knicks and when they did not select him he went public with his disappointment. On Friday night February 5th Jennings made his Madison Square Garden debut against the Knicks and he spoke with Samori Benjamin and Wbai Sports. Ronny Turiaf was raised in France and is playing in his 5th season in the NBA. After leaving Gonzaga University and before starting his NBA career Turiaf had to have a six-hour open heart operation after being diagnosed with an enlarged aortic root. Turiaf recovered to bring his high energy style of play to the L.A. Lakers where he played alongside Kobe Bryant. Turiaf’s last season with L.A. was two seasons ago when they lost in the NBA Finals to the Boston Celtics. Last season Turiaf signed with the Golden State Warriors as a free agent because they offered him more money and he had to watch on television like the rest of us the Lakers win the NBA Finals. He tells us what that experience was like, as well as the strong relationship he built with Kobe Bryant while in Los Angeles, the development of the French National basketball team, playing the mentor role in Golden State, his days in Laker Land and more.

Stephen Jackson has had a bit of a controversial career over his ten year NBA career. He was involved in the Detroit melee at the palace of Auburn Hills in November 2004 when his Indiana Pacers and Ron Artest got into it with the Detroit Pistons and the Detroit fans. Jackson ran into the stands to help teammate Ron Artest that night and was suspended 30 games for his actions by NBA commissioner David Stern. Jackson won a NBA championship before that however in 2002 with the San Antonio Spurs. Jackson currently is frustrated being on his current team the Golden State Warriors and has tried everything within his power to get traded during the early season. I didn’t ask him about his quest to get off the Golden State Warriors because at the time I was interviewing him he was around a few of his teammates so I didn’t want to put him on the spot like that. I ended up asking him some questions just to fill time. However , when he answers my question it’s clear that he would love to play his home games at Madison Square Garden.

Hill was an unknown to New Yorkers and was not treated kindly by the Knick faithful inside the WaMu theatre at Madison Square Garden on draft night. The New York Knicks selected guard Tony Douglass with the 29th overall pick in the 2009 draft. Douglass was the second of the Knicks' two first round draft selections in 2009. His brother Harry Douglass is a second year wide reciever on the Atlanta Falcons but tore his knee in pre-season and is out for the season. Tony played his college ball at football crazy Flordia State University but played hoops instead. He spoke with me after the Knicks fell to the Golden State Warriors 127-107 at Madison Square garden on Friday night, and the 1-9 start is the worse start in franchise history. Cecil Cooper is one of four African-American managers in Major League Baseball Today. In a weekend series from August 22nd through August 25th Cooper's Astros locked horns against Jerry Manuel's New York Mets. The match-up was one of the rare occurrences when two African-American managers faced off against each other. On August 26th WBAI Sports spoke with Cooper and aired a report.

New York Mets manager Jerry Manuel Speaks with WBAI Sports about growing up in the South, with a father who played in the Negro Leagues, and the rest of his background which eventually led to him becoming one of the few African-American managers in the history of major league baseball.

Willie Randolph and Jerry Manuel are the only two African-American managers in New York City baseball history. Two weeks before Willie Randolph was fired by the New York Mets WBAI Sports spoke with then Mets bench coach Jerry Manuel about the pressure Randolph was under. Since then, Mets management has replaced Randolph with Manuel as Mets manager. Manuel, who had previously managed the Chicago White Sox from 1998 through 2003, also spoke about his chances of getting a second opportunity to manage a major league ball club, when so many African-American managers before him were denied that second opportunity.

During the 1972 world series Jackie Robinson made his final public appearance in Cincinnati where he urged then commissioner Bowie Kuhn to see to it that major league baseball hire an African American manager for the first time in league history. Washington Chimes in on the Randolph situation in New York, as well as speaking about the decline of African-Americans in the sport, and growing up playing baseball in segregated New Orleans where he was a part of the city’s first high school integration class.

A talk with C. Vivian Stringer and her former backcourt Matee Ajavon and Essence Carson. Ajavon and Caron met as pros for the first time when the NY Liberty hosted the Houston Comets on Friday night.
